Start with measured requirements
Lensdatum works offline and opens to a synthetic example. Replace its values with measured geometry, project requirements, and applicable supplier data.
Start a project
Use the folder button to create, duplicate, select, import, or delete a locally saved project. The included conveyor inspection project is a synthetic demonstration, not a lens recommendation.
Define the bench
Enter active sensor width and height, pixel resolution, focal length, working distance, aperture, circle criterion, wavelength, exposure, and object speed. Then enter target size, smallest feature, required pixels, clearance, and edge reserve. Use Metric or Imperial for length entry.
Solve and compare
Solve shows the focal limits created by target fit and feature sampling. Add a candidate to record supplier focal tolerance, distortion allowance, minimum focus, and notes. Candidate ranking uses the worst of eight focal, distance, and active-area tolerance corners.
Review margins
Margins includes focal sensitivity, pixel pitch, diffraction diameter, object motion, depth-of-field limits, magnification, tolerance corners, and plain-language findings. A warning identifies an assumption that needs review; it is not a certification failure.
Validate a field
Measure a known span in the image and add a field check. Lensdatum compares measured and predicted field width, calculates percentage error, and estimates the effective focal length that would produce the measured field in the first-order model.
Import and export
Lensdatum imports project JSON created by Lensdatum. Prepare evidence package creates project JSON, candidate CSV, validation CSV, an engineering text brief, a PDF packet, and a SHA-256 manifest. Apple's share sheet controls where those files go.
Troubleshooting
The focal window is infeasible
Target fit and required feature sampling do not overlap at the current sensor, distance, and requirement. Review target clearance, working distance, sensor size, resolution, and required pixels.
A candidate stays in review
Open its tolerance-corner details and read the worst finding. Check minimum focus, supplier focal tolerance, working-distance tolerance, active-area tolerance, and distortion reserve.
An imported file is rejected
Use an unmodified Lensdatum project JSON or the project JSON inside a complete Lensdatum evidence package.
Engineering boundary
Lensdatum is a first-order planning and documentation aid. It does not certify a lens or replace supplier data, optical simulation, measured commissioning, or qualified engineering review.
Contact support
Include Lensdatum version 1.0 build 4 or later, device model, iOS or iPadOS version, affected workspace, and reproducible steps. Do not email proprietary designs, confidential notes, or complete evidence packages.
